As a family, when I was about to turn 10 years old and Hawaii had just become a state (1959), we were fortunate to visit the islands. Had to wear suits on the plane. Only 3 hotels on Waikiki. We stayed at the Mauna Loa. Even at that young age, I truly believed I'd found paradise.
