I believe it's just preying on natural human curiosity, like so much clickbait, and even normal intriguing titling. At heart, people's first reaction is to want to know what that one extra thing is. As for me, I just don't read any title beginning with XX Ways To .... That's so uncreative and overused, tells me right away what I need to know.
