I guess I have quite a different take on this. A decade ago, in preparation for our world travels, I stopped watching TV, threw away my phone, sold my car and let my driver's license expire. I never looked back. Nor have I ever been happier. It was never about the safety, but the cost. No more car insurance. No more fuel costs. No more maintenance costs. No more car payments. No more speeding fines. The savings have been ENORMOUS! The gravy? I've never been happier. No more road rage or driving stress for me. The few times I need to go somewhere, Uber works more than fine. The phone and TV made an insidious return - different circumstances. But not driving has never been a problem. Admittedly, at this point in my life, you would not want me on the road.
