I've only been to a handful of live performances - more due to anti-social introversion than acoustic interest, I assure you - but my favorite was a truly intimate little gathering at an Alaskan piano shop, where two Russian jazz artists performed on piano and clarinet. I was 49, with a twenty-something at my side, and we just sat spellbound listening. In turn, the musicians, noting our rapt attention, let it all hang out (as they admitted after.) Nothing beats a live performance, especially when they are playing "just for you."
